Pool it

By having more people using one vehicle, carpooling reduces fuel costs and is also seen as a more environmentally friendly way to travel as it reduces carbon emissions.

Car Pooling is a car sharing platform to share a lift within the UK and Europe. Here you can offer or search for vacant seats on journeys within the UK: www.carpooling.co.uk.

Cycling in Plymouth

Marine litter has a huge impact on the marine environment as more than 1 million birds and 100,000 marine mammals die each year from becoming entangled in or ingesting marine litter

Plymouth City Council is committed to encouraging and developing cycling in the city. Cycling is a good way to stay fit and healthy, it is also cheaper and sometimes a quicker (in the rush hour) way of getting about.

Marine protected areas

Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are zones of the seas and coasts where wildlife is protected from damage and disturbance.

The Government is committed to establishing a well-managed ecologically coherent network of MPAs in our seas by 2013.

Here are two main areas around Plymouth that are allocated as Marine Protected Areas, Cattewater Shipwreck and Plymouth Sounds and Estuaries.
